The recipe for the Old Fashioned cocktail is simple
- 40 ml. Bourbon, Scotch or Rye whiskey
- 1 sugar cube
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 splash water
- fruit garnish
but the execution of the oldest known cocktail is complex and varied. The best bartenders find the proper balance between the alcohol, citrus and sweet. They ask the right questions and may add their own unique twist. The worst have never heard of it, fumble along, and would prefer if you ordered something less taxing.
The inconsistency makes finding the places where the most talented mixologists work their craft worth sharing.
I’ll share my reviews on these pages to help those in pursuit of the perfect cocktail.
